Saturna Island:

About Saturna Island

Saturna Island is a thirty-one square kilometer island off the east coast of Vancouver Island. It is one of the six coastal islands; the others being Pender Island, Salt Spring Island, Thetis Island, Mudge Island, and Galiano Island.

Saturna Island is a perfect destination for a special retreat or a chance to get away from the city and enjoy the simpler aspects of life. The Island is famous for its moderate climate, quality accommodations and it's easily accessible beaches.

Its thirty-one kilometer area includes wetlands, mud flats, beaches and forests. There are also over one hundred and eighty species of birds. Deer are the most popular wildlife in the island, and can be seen everywhere.

Popular past times and activities in Saturna Island include hiking, cycling, spending time in the water, and walks around the island to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Since Saturna Island is so small, the population remains equally small as there are only few people who live there year around, and most people only visit the island for the summer or for holidays. This preserves the wildlife, and the charm of the Island.

Popular spots in Saturna Island include, Vineyard and Winery, East Point Regional Park, Veruna Bay, Thomson Park, and Winter Cove National Park, where every July 1st, locals and visitors celebrate Canada day with the traditional Saturna Lamb Barbecue.
