Sidney is located 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) north of Victoria B.C., on Vancouver Island, which is 44 kilometers (27 miles) across the Strait of Georgia from Mainland British Columbia. You can reach Sidney by water from Mainland B.C. or Washington State, by air from Vancouver or Seattle via the major airlines at Victoria International Airport, as well as by chartered floatplane. Either way, the trip will be surrounded with beautiful scenery.
Traveling by Ferry
Sidney is connected to Mainland British Columbia by BC Ferries which operates daily vehicle and passenger ferry service between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. The Vancouver Island Swartz Bay BC Ferry terminal is located approximately 10 driving minutes North of Sidney. Ferries arrive here from the B.C. Mainland Tsawwassen terminal, located 38 km (24 miles) south of Vancouver. Crossing time is 1 hour and 35 minutes. The ferries sail every two hours during the day in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, and every hour during the Summer and on some holiday weekends. Vehicle reservations are recommended.
From Washington State, vehicle and passenger ferry service is available from Anacortes, located between Seattle, WA. to the south and Vancouver, B.C. to the north (approximately 85 miles from each). The Vancouver Island terminal for this ferry service is located in Sidney. This ferry crosses 1-3 times a day, depending on the season, and this service is canceled during the winter. Crossing time is approximately 3 hours. Vehicle reservations are required.
Traveling by Vehicle
From downtown Victoria, B.C. drive along Blanshard Street (which becomes Highway #17, also known as the Pat Bay Highway). Drive approximately 27 kilometers (17 miles) north. Turn right onto Beacon Avenue.
The Victoria Regional Transit System provides public bus transportation to Sidney from all parts of Greater Victoria.
